Pocklington. Still no train.
They dug up Iron Age chariots here. They also dug up the railway to York.
Pocklington's a nice little market town under the Wolds, with a canal and some Iron Age chariots dug out of a field. It lost its railway to York, so everyone drives. The estates keep coming and School Lane is a parking war.
Nobody fly-tips, hardly anybody kicks off and burglary's about a third of the typical town's. The overflows nearby dump sewage for over five times the typical town's hours, though, and a major pollution incident put ammonia in the water in 2023. HSBC has gone, and the buses run about a quarter as often as the typical town's. Apart from that it's annoyingly decent. Sorry.
