Privacy
We keep as little as we can get away with. There are no accounts and no ads. We count visits, but we don't follow you about.
The site is run by the people who run Crap Towns. Questions go to editor@craptowns.com.
If you vote
We keep the town you voted for and a random number in a cookie on your browser, so each browser gets one vote a year and can change its mind. The number isn't linked to your name, your email or anything else about you. The cookies page has the details.
If you write a letter
We keep what you wrote, whether it's a moan or a defence, the place you say you're from and the date. The editor reads it first, and it only appears on the site if the editor approves it. It's signed "A local" or "A defender", never with a name, so don't put your name in it.
If you nominate a town
We keep the town, what you said about it and the date. Only the editor sees it.
If you email us
We keep your email for as long as we need it to sort out whatever you wrote about, and use your address only to reply.
Counting visits
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see how many people visit, which pages they read, which sites sent them, what sort of device they're on and roughly which country they're in. It sets no cookies, doesn't keep your IP address and doesn't follow you to other sites. We only ever see totals, never you.
Behind the scenes
The site runs on Cloudflare. Like any web host, it sees your IP address and browser to send you the pages and to keep out attacks and spam, and it does a quick check that you're a person when you send a vote, letter or nomination. We don't keep IP addresses with any of it.
Your rights
You can ask to see what we hold about you, or ask us to correct it or delete it. Email the editor. Votes aren't tied to anyone, so we can't pick yours out, but anything you've written or sent us we can find and remove. If you're not happy with how we've handled it, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
