Cookies

One cookie, and only if you vote. That's it.

The vote cookie

When you vote for Crap Town of the Year we set a cookie calledct_voter. It holds a random number so we know this browser has voted, which is how it gets one vote and can change its mind. It lasts about 13 months from the last time you looked at the vote, and only the vote ever reads it. It doesn't track you round the site or anywhere else.

You need it to vote, so there's nothing to switch on or off. If you'd rather not have it, don't vote, or clear it from your browser afterwards. Clearing it means that browser can vote again, which is why we say one vote per browser rather than per person.

Nothing else

No analytics cookies, no advertising cookies, nothing from social media. The check that you're a person when you send something doesn't set a tracking cookie either.

We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which doesn't use cookies at all. The privacy page says what it sees.
