North Wingfield. Mind the gap.
The pits shut years ago. Now the developers want the fields between the villages.
North Wingfield and Holmewood were pit villages. The pits went decades ago and left the Five Pits Trail, so you can have a nice walk past where the jobs used to be. Now every developer in Derbyshire is after the field between the two villages. Once that's gone it's one long village with a bus stop every ten yards, which is roughly what they've got already.
The real trouble's in the brook. The storm overflows round here spill for 3,205 hours per 10,000 people a year, 11.7 times the typical town's. Two old pit villages producing that much shit takes some doing. Meanwhile some bugger keeps setting fire to the grass and the scrub and smashing up whatever won't burn. There's no swimming pool. There's the brook, and you wouldn't.
