Stuck at the M1.
Right next to the M1, so when the main road shuts, every lorry going comes through here.
South Normanton sits right next to the M1, which sounds handy until the junction jams and every diverted lorry in the Midlands comes through the village. Pinxton made coal and posh china, and somebody there invented a safety hook for the pits. Now the pair of them get the noise, the fumes and the school run parked across the roads.
The fumes show, with nitrogen dioxide 33% above the typical town's. Cheers, M1. The brook gets the sewage: storm overflows spill at 6.9 times the typical town's rate, and the latest serious pollution incident put crude sewage straight in the water. The pool shut in 2023 and there's one public toilet between the two villages, which is no use to anyone stuck on the slip road.
