Should've stayed Wooden Box
A pottery village named after a toll booth, and it still has the kiln to prove it.
Woodville used to be called Wooden Box, after the wooden hut where they took the tolls, which is a cracking name, and they went and changed it. It made pots, pipes and bricks, and the old kiln's still standing. It sits right on the line between Derbyshire and Leicestershire, so neither of them has to own it.
There's one Greggs, and that's lunch. St Stephen's church has made the Heritage at Risk register, and the storm overflows round here spill for 1.7 times as long as the typical town's. Everyone still ends up queuing at the Clock Roundabout, wishing it was still a wooden box with a bloke in it.
