Holeville, to the locals.
Built on coal. The pits shut, the museum shut, and the precinct's going the same way.
Coalville was named after the coal, which is awkward now there isn't any. They shut the Snibston museum, and the colliery buildings they kept for heritage are officially at risk, so even the bit they saved is falling down. The precinct looks like it's waiting for the bulldozer.
Halifax, HSBC and Lloyds have all announced they're off. What moved in instead is vape shops, at six times the typical town's rate per head, and somebody kicking the windows in. Locals call it the Vill when they're being kind. The rest of the time it's Holeville, and they're not joking.
