Where's the end of the pier gone?
Herne Bay's pier doesn't reach its own end. The end bit's stuck out at sea on its own.
Herne Bay has a pier with the end bit marooned out at sea, which tells you most of it. The pier shops sell tat, there's nothing to do at night and motorbikes tear through the park. The fly-tippers are busy. Whitstable's up the road being smug about it, and for once Whitstable's got a point.
The banks have given up on it: 6 branch closures since 2022, over seven times the typical town's rate. The high street has charity shops at three times the typical town's rate instead. The sun's out for 1,863 hours a year, so at least you get a good look at the end of the pier.
