Chadderton built bombers, you know.
Chadderton made Lancasters and cotton. The mills are still here, and the air's still shite.
Chadderton built Lancaster bombers in the war, and Chaddy will bring it up whether you asked or not. Before that it was cotton, and the big red brick mills are still standing, which is more than you can say for the air.
Nitrogen dioxide runs at nearly twice the typical town's level, and both that and the fine particles are over the health guidelines. It rains on 167 days a year and the sun puts in 1,319 hours, so it's wet, it's dark and you can taste it. Somebody sets fire to a bin more than six times as often as in the typical town, which isn't helping. At school time the cars round Holly Grove are parked across every pavement.
